River Island has teamed up with British designer T. Lipop for their Autumn/Winter 2013 menswear collection, and what better way to celebrate this than with an event? But, this was not just any event - last week saw the screening of a short film directed by Aoife McArdle inspired by River Island’s A/W ’13 collection. This was part of the British Fashion Council’s ‘Fash/On Film’ innovative — of whom River Island sponsor — which was created to stimulate and aid the growth of designers, and brands, using film as a medium for showcasing. The film drew inspiration from a collection of highly tactile and naturalistic clothing. McArdle explains, “After seeing the collection I wanted to write about a character in the aftermath of an apocalypse using clothing as a last emblem of identity and humanity in such abnormal circumstances.” He also added that he was interested in juxtaposing the quality of the clothing at hand with the derelict landscapes featured in the film.
